I ran across this series of Balloons by Matt Sheridan Smith at Metro Tech in Brooklyn, New York. On the face of it, I just thought what a weird juxtaposition of balloon figures but according to the placard, the figures represent commodities traded on the international futures market (huh! how often does art meets the commodities market??) From left. wheat, coffee, wool and canola seeds and is named Soft Futures (Price has no memory.) The placard, reads, “These soft monuments, give shape to systems we use value such goods, as well as our desire to predict, and control the forces acting on them.”
I love art but….
